Community Agreements
Community Values and Practices
Please read our Transformative Justice Community Values and Practices. The agreements are a mix of values, which are ideals that we strive to live up to and practices which we hold ourselves accountable to.
Please identify one value and/or practice that you would like to uplift for your time participating in this course. This should be a value or practice that you would like to strive to practice or center throughout the 8 weeks.
Harm Response
Rather than trying to control whether oppression will manifest, the focus is more on how we will respond when it manifests. We should think of it as inevitable, rather than surprising. “A commitment to anti-racism or anti-violence does not mean that you will never buy into privilege, what it does mean is that when you make a mistake you are able to face it and make needed repair.” - adapted from bell hooks, From Feminist Accountability by Ann Russo
As you saw in the agreements, Liberation is a key value of our work and this curriculum. It is important to us that people are free in the space. Free to do or not do the assignments; free to interpret the prompts in whatever mode feels organic. Because we are invested in collective liberation (not just individual freedom) it is important that we recognize within that freedom that systems of harm and oppression live within each of us and while we are free to do as we please, our actions impact others and in this space the consequences of harm are held by the harm doer, not just the person harmed. We seek to embrace collective liberation in the face of harm through our harm reporting and response systems.
You can report harm to the Spring Up Team using this form.
To learn more about addressing and responding to harm during the course, please read this additional information on the subject.
Confidentiality Agreement
Please read the Confidentiality Agreement to learn more about how we honor and respect confidentiality in our space.
Website Terms of Agreement + Privacy Policy
We worked with C. Handy Law firm to develop clear and explicit terms of agreement and privacy policies that align with our values. This is often something that you just passively agree to, check the box, and move on; however we believe that these sorts of agreements are not just perfunctory, they are how we agree to what we are each accountable to each other for. Even if you do not read the full documents which can be found at the bottom of our home page, please watch the brief videos created by C. Handy Law Firm to summarize the main ideas in these documents.
